perfect for pollinators

Silene latifolia  is an upright biennial or short-lived perennial with pretty clusters of pure white flowers that are about 3cm in diameter that emerge from striped pods. The flowers have  a slight scent in the evening, during its late spring to early summer flowering period. Flowers are rich in pollen so are very attractive to butterflies and other pollinators.

If you are a florist doing wedding work then this plant is a must to add to your cutting garden.  The stems can be harvested at any stage and cut stems will last around 7-10 days in a vase.

They are also a lovely addition to a garden border and super cute for a cottage garden look as well as wildflower gardens and open woodland garden areas.  Also great for the rock at the front of the border.

Plants like full sun although they will appreciate a little shade from hot afternoon sun. Excellent drainage is essential and sandy gravelly soils or light loams will provide the best results. Does not like wet winter soils, so drainage is key. Drought tolerant once established.

Biennial | Short lived perennial up to five years | May self sow

Height with flower stems to 45cm x 45cm Wide

Plant size | PB 2 | Equivalent 1.2 litres
